bowdlerize

Postby bnjtokyo » Mon Feb 20, 2023 7:42 am

The Good Doctor discussed this word in 2013, but in view of the recent brouhaha over the new edition of Roald Dahl's works perhaps it is time to run it again with a new example of usage: "Salman Rushdie and PEN reacted strongly to the bowdlerized new edition of Roald Dahl's novels for young readers."

I'll go along with you on that one.

Here's the original take on it: bowdlerize got 20 comments back then.

I used white font, to whitewash it, get it? Gee, aren't I original.
