A rather determined storm, rather well known in New England, perhaps especially to fisherfolk. (We're expecting one tonight.)
When the wind and rain descend, be sure to have your sou'wester ready.

I don't remember just when I learned that a nor'easter is headed that way, not coming from there.

Re: nor'easter
But, Slava, a nor'easter *does* sweep in from the ocean, which in New England is still mostly in the northeast. The aspect toward the ocean is admittedly a bit different in Connecticut and Rhode Island, where the heavy winds of hurricanes sweep in from the south.

Oh goody, dictionary.com has it wrong:
Or am I misreading that? Color me confusticated!an eastern North American storm that usually develops between the Georgia and New Jersey latitudes, progressing northeastward

Ah, Slava! Try this: https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/13/weather/ ... index.html
I suggest that whoever added that definition to dictionary.com has their head screwed on backwards. A wind direction is always specified by the direction *from* which it is blowing.
("Confusticated" is a neat word -- I'll have to try it out. I usually say "confuddled".)
