artifact

Postby bbeeton » Wed May 31, 2023 11:18 am

Variously, a human-created object, usually from an earlier (sometimes very much earlier) time, but now taking on the meaning of an unexpected inclusion in a created object.

The variant spelling "artefact" seems to be British, or used by someone in the U.S. who isn't sure how the word should be spelled.

Wow, so much more complicated than I would have thought. It even turns out that, at least on dictionary.com, there are separate entries for both spellings.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
