My enthusiasm for seeing this word added to our list is untrammeled. Should it be taken up as is, or gotten to via trammel, its root? Lots of nice stuff there.

Trammel came up today in a crossword puzzle, as the answer to the clue 'ensnare'. It caught me unawares, as I was thinking only of the untouched/unspoiled idea of untrammeled, not the netted and entangling idea of trammeled. I'd forgotten that untrammeled meant something more, and that trammeled isn't the opposite of untrammeled in that meaning. Or is it? The on-line dictionary I'm looking at doesn't make that clear.
