temblor

Postby skinem » Fri Jun 29, 2007 5:38 pm

tem·blor

Pronunciation: 'tem-bl&r; 'tem-"blor, tem-'
Function: noun
Etymology: Spanish, a trembling, earthquake, from temblar, to shake, from Vulgar Latin *tremulre, from Latin tremulus, shaking

Now, why in the world don't they just call it a 'tremblor' like half of the population? Where'd the R go?

Hey, I am happy if you understood that I meant "shake, rattle and roll". 8) I don't have a clue how to conjugate Latin. :?

Perhaps it was carted off by the infamous "Knights Temblar"!

Took me a while to find it:
I heard a Californian student in Heidelberg say, in one of his calmest moods, that he would rather decline two drinks than one German adjective.

-- Mark Twain, The Awful German Language
Although, actually, one might decline to use a verb but one doesn't decline a verb; that's a conjugative (not conjugal!) activity.

Aye, and those that come under cover of darkness create the Nights Tremblor.

Regarding Volvo, anyone know the Latin word for "I bring an insatiable repair bill appetite"?

Buy a Volvo once, shame on them; buy another one- you can't get fooled again

Don't know about Volvo, but I believe one of the words you're looking for is "Fiat"...
