con·fig·ure (kn-fgyr)
tr.v. con·fig·ured, con·fig·ur·ing, con·fig·ures
To design, arrange, set up, or shape with a view to specific applications or uses: a military vehicle that was configured for rough terrain; configured the computer by setting the system's parameters.

[Middle English configuren, from Old French configurer, from Latin cnfigrre : com-, com- + figrre, to form (from figra, shape; see dheigh- in Indo-European roots).]
sounds close to conficker.

As nothing's happened so far, perhaps this is all a joke? Note the date.

And therein lies the rub. Are they doing it today as a joke, or NOT doing it today as a joke?

I do hope it's the latter.

rub? I'd say it was more like "to be or not to be". It isn't really irony but inconsistancy.
