inured

Postby Bailey » Tue Jan 12, 2010 9:36 am

in·ure also en·ure (n-yr)
tr.v. in·ured also en·ured, in·ur·ing also en·ur·ing, in·ures also en·ures
To habituate to something undesirable, especially by prolonged subjection; accustom:
I've lived for over 60 years and have seen so many changes yet have never become inured to the worst of them.

I'm glad you're not inured to them...that wouldn't be a good sign.

In my former profession dealing with some of the people I had to, I would tell my wife that I was shocked, but not surprised.

Not inured here, either. Somewhat calloused, but not inured.

I lived in Moscow for 12 years, and became quite inured to many, many things. Pretty much from day 1, too.

Rule #1 for living in Russia: Never Ask Why. You'll go nuts, so get used to it and deal. That is to say, become inured.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

I wish I could become inured to snow. I've lived in the
Plains all my life and I still detest the stuff, especially
this year: 45 inches of the stuff in my yard at last
measuring.
