OK, so now I am really confused. I was going to submit this word with the admonition NOT to spell it with an "A". I looked it up just to be certain and found out it is also spelled with an "A" but with a narrow application.

Dictionary.com simply tells us to look at ambiance, which looks wrong to me. Unless I'm going to go for an Anglicization of the pronunciation. I'm a snob, so I'll stick to the French tasting one.
