I think this word has been around long enough that English speakers are entitled to claim it. It's corollary in English is feast with the same Latinate origin, that of festa, though our version by way of French. The German word for celebration is Feier. I cannot help but notice the similarity here with fiesta. The Latin PIE root is dhis. Does anyone have better research that would connect the German Feier to fiesta? I am not attempting to force a connection where one does not exist, but I have been curious about this for some time and am frustrated in putting this issue to bed.
