Pabulum
This comes to us from Latin, which obtained same from PIE. Pa, for food, nourishment. In a broader sense it can be used to indicate feed or fodder for anything. In a narrower sense, a diminutive version was used as the brand name for a cereal, Pablum.

Spiro Agnew is credited with the first use of pablum as political drivel.
