So, if this comes from noose, how did it get to be taking away dirt? Shouldn't it be "take someone down from the scaffold"?From Latin ablaqueātus (“loosened, dug up”), past participle of ablaqueō (“to disentangle”), formed from ab- + laqueō (“noose”).
