Attrition

Postby William Hupy » Wed Nov 01, 2017 8:39 am

The meaning of this word changed little from its Latin root, meaning to wear down by rubbing. Then there are acts of attrition and wars of attrition.

I just learned of acts of attrition, and how they are less than those of contrition. The former are due only to the fear of punishment or a sense of shame, not really caring for the transgression itself and seeking atonement.

This is also how some companies slowly let their staff go. People who leave are simply not replaced, leaving others to take up the slack.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
