Worse/worst

Good, better, best. Bad, worse, worst.

So each of these sets presumably is made from two different base words. So surely, good, gooder and goodest once prevailed? Also bad, badder and baddest. But what are the ordinary adjectives (not sure what it is called, but as opposed to the comparative and the superlative) for better/best and worse/worst?

Yes, Slava, that item was taken up subsequent to my suggestion and actually because of it!

That's one reason I'm going through all these old posts, to show other visitors that, yes, suggestions are actually used. I'm also pointing them to the discussion, should they wish to read more. I admit my main goal, though, is to reduce the number of unanswered posts. We're below 1,000 now. :D
