Quibble

Postby David Myer » Thu Sep 12, 2019 3:14 am

Beautiful word of course and adding richly to the language because it fills a gap in meaning between petty quarrel (where did petty come from? Perhaps direct from French petit?) and and a stronger argument. The thing about a quibble it seems to me is that it may be only a small point, but it is often an important one. You can easily dismiss a petty point but a quibble demands more serious consideration.

Lovely word. Should be used much more.

Odd, this one's been done twice, but never made it to the Agora. Here's a link to the site dictionary page for quibble.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
