'like' and 'as'

Norwegian spies??? Spying on whom and for whom?
When I met them they weren't actually spying at the time, they were studying Russian at Middlebury College in Vermont. Each summer there would be a group of 4 or 5 Norwegians. They were always very nice, but weren't allowed to talk about what they did back home. Spy.

:) I am not good in adverbs but i use "like" and "as" in different cases.

For example:

She likes to be more independent than her sister.
differs from ----


She is independent as well as her sister.

I guess those two sentences above make different meanings.
