We are indeed a melting pot. My first thought on reading the article was that in New Orleans for years you can just walk down Canal Street and hear Spanish, Cajun, various Eastern languages, Arabic, etc.
Now it is so in North Louisiana. In Wal-Mart one hears lots of Spanish, occasional Cajun French, and various languages you can only guess at. Since we are a college town, we see students from the Middle East and the orient, and they are speaking their home language. You can also hear various blends of English, some of which are as incomprehensible as the Arabic!
