People named after colors.

Postby Perry Lassiter » Sat Feb 03, 2018 11:24 pm

Surnames mostly evolved logically: John's son to Johnson, and Joe the blacksmith to Joe Smith. But whence come the last names that are also colors? White, Black, Green, Redd, Brown, an d any others that may come to mind? Anyone do research on these?

Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

Here is an interesting thread on Reddit, where people explain why black, white, brown turned into last names, and there are no surnames like orange, purple, etc:
reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/3xi7am/how_did_last_names_of_colors_arise_blue_green/

In the comment section, you can find a user with the name evolution writers scam, he posted rare facts on "How did last names of colors arise".
