Keraunothnetophobia

Postby Dr. Goodword » Thu Jan 14, 2021 1:13 pm

Kate and Mick Stannard created an electronic instrumental piece which contains a vocal episode about the number of satellites circling above the Earth that must, at some time, crash downward. They called the piece "Keraunothnetophobia", so people thought this word might mean "the fear of being hit by a falling (manmade) satellite".

Unfortunately, song-writers are lousy lexicologists. Keraunothnetophobia is a misspelling of keraunothenophobia "fear of being struck by lightning", from Greek keraunos "thunderbolt" + then- "strike".

So, it can't be added to my "Corrected List of Phobias".

Bummer, I thought it was a real one. Shows what I get for trusting the Internot. Far too often we get misled by reasonable looking references. Especially if we want the answer to be true.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
