Announcing a new arrival to the family of amusing redundundancies!
Joining ‘ATM machine’ and ‘PIN number’ is ‘GOP party’ (Newsweek online) this very day, February 7, 2021. Mazel Tov!

Given that there are fumbling rumblings of a possibly potential split in the party mentioned, perhaps this won't be repetitively redundant for long. We might end up with old and new versions of said grouping; the GOP, and the current name.

:?: If the proprietor of a tavern in Britain loses his license and then gets it back, does that make him a republican? :?:

Interesting that ‘Grand Old Party’ was first used only about twenty years after the party’s formation. And ‘GOP’ appears about ten years after that.

Yet another! Albeit, like its predecessor, a nonce usage:

GUT theory.

For non-science types, ‘Grand Unified Theory’ is a sought-after model of physics which would combine the basic forces in a unified understanding.

Not quite the same thing but here in Japan we often hear and see signs stating things like "Tamagawa River" where Japanese-English dictionaries usually gloss "gawa" as "river"

As with Eyjafjallajökull glacier, where the 'jökull' part means glacier. It's related to the ikl of icicle, I'm led to believe by various sources.

Thanks to you both. A friend once referred to ‘Broadway Street’, talking about the one here in San Francisco.
