Lose/loose

I am increasingly seeing the word 'lose' spelled as 'loose'. This seems to be quite a recent tendency. Has anyone else here noticed this trend?

No-one I personally know uses the spelling 'loose' when they mean 'lose'. I wonder if it is largely an American phenomenon.

Any thoughts?

Don't specifically remember reading it, but I must have, because I was not surprised. Will pay attention and report if I encounter it again.

I'm willing to put this down to relying on spell-check. Both spellings are real words, and many people don't pay much attention to what they thumb in nowadays.
