Funny Euphemisms for 'Daft', 'Crazy', 'Dumb'

Postby Dr. Goodword » Sat Jan 17, 2015 4:51 pm

I want to put a page of euphemistic expressions for 'daft'. The problem is, I can only think of seven:

They're a brick or two shy a full load.
Their lift doesn't go all the way to the top floor.
They aren't playing with a full deck (of cards).
They don't have all their marbles.
They are off their rocker.
They have bats in their belfry.
They have a loose screw (in their head).

If anyone reading this can think of others, I'll credit you on the page.

Common in these parts:
Not the brightest button on the blazer
Not the sharpest tool in the box
A sandwich short of a picnic

Thanks. I particularly like "not the brightest button on the blazer".

Missing a few cards from their deck.
Down here we use elevator rather than lift, but it doesn't get all the way to the top either.
Nuts.
Loony.
A bit off.
Which world are they in?
Blond.

How about the old stand-by of "dim bulb?"
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.

Here's a new one to me:

Not exactly the swiftest boat on the lake.

Which reminds me of one from the first "Shreck" movie:

Not the sharpest tool in the shed.

These are, of course, riffs on being dumb as in dense, not dumb as a synonym for daft or crazy.
