Platitude
Wow, I never saw the connection. From French for flatness, also plat for flat. A plat book is a flat book of maps indicating land divisions. But also this relates to plateau, table land. Going backward, perhaps from Latin, plattus, from Greek, platys, meaning broad, flat. I will surmise her that a platypus with a broad, flat snout is thus named. See also plaice.

Re: Platitude
Taken up and treated here.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
