I checked a few other sources and it looks to be that way. I've sent a message to Etymonline to let them know. Good catch.According to Wiktionary, the singular is either cannolo (Italian) or cannolu (Sicilian).

Etymonline’s entry suggests cannola is Italian only
(and not for the pastry).
And the OED admits solely of the plural.
