From her book, If Walls Could Talk, I discovered biscuit, for twice or second cooked.after bread was baked, there was sufficient heat in the oven for a second round of baking of cakes or biscuits. Bis, from Latin for twice, two and cocus, the Latin for cook. German, Koch.

Related to bisque, but not in a soupy way. Porcelain, yes.
