Prompted by a report on "Wait, wait, don't tell me" about an automobile recall on account of exploding seat belt retractors. !!!
Some recollections are pleasant: "I recall our sunny days in Aunt Lizzie's garden." A variation is the currently all-too-common answer to a question from a lawyer or a Congressional panel: "I don't recall".
But having one's transportation summoned to correct a defect is not so pleasant. This is the result of the corresponding noun form, recall.
Another kind of recall is an effort to remove an elected official. And a recall notice can be issued to bring back a military reserve into active duty.
