Okay, not really a great good word, and limited in use, but it's so weird I just have to put it out there.
Slubbing is a means of treating fabrics to give them a rough, twisted, "natural" look. I first saw it in a Sara Paretsky mystery, and it seems to be applied more to upscale women's clothing.
It's a mystery itself as to whence it came.
