Thanks, Audiendus, but I'm probably asking for the moon, since my 'Arghh' is not so much an angry frustration, but one where I might follow up the 'Arghh', with a sigh and a, "Typical," if that sounds familiar to anyone else. Perry, Yes, very small world! Hope you enjoyed your visit. Sardi...

Audiendus,
Can you find an emoticon for the emotional outburst of frustration most commonly expressed by the word: 'Arghh'!
That's the one I wish was available many times.

Why thank you.
I have been told that my eyes are one of my best features.
I know. I couldn't resist...ugh.

This quote is the reason for my query: “Novels so often provide an anodyne and not an antidote, glide one into torpid slumbers instead of rousing one with a burning brand.” ~Virginia Woolf, English author, essayist, publisher, and writer of short stories, (1882-1941)~ tor·pid (tôrpd) adj. 1. Deprive...

Like you usually do, Slava, you've broken it down for me succinctly. Some things were bugging me, but you articulated.
Thanks,

I have a question: Though both of these words are mostly the same, I have wondered what difference there is, based on the fact that dregs sink and dross rises-if that makes sense to anyone else... Thanks for any thoughts, Sardith :) "It is our best work that God wants, not the dregs of our exha...

Doc~
I ran across this word, 'chagrin' again and wondered if I might prevail upon you to reconsider and suss it out.
Thanks,
Sardith

titubant : A disturbance of body equilibrium in standing or walking, resulting in an uncertain gait and trembling. Byron did something of the kind in Don Juan; and the world at large is still quivering and titubant under the shock of his appeal. -- W. E. Henley, "The Secret of Wordsworth,"...

In the meantime, I have a question:
Would the supporter of one Presidential candidate, who publicly referred to another Presidential candidate's religion as a 'cult', be considered an iconoclast?
If so, I believe a Dr. Goodword iconoclast article would be quite timely.

I see that KatyBr suggested this word before, but it was back in 2005, and I couldn't find that there was an article on it since, so I thought I'd throw it back on the pile.
I would love to see it!

Dr. Goodword, I was watching a show about a company, whose expertise was bridge moving. I saw as they picked up huge sections of bridge with a Chinook helicopter, but as they were going to set it down, one of their support trucks below, became stuck in the mud, making it impossible for the bridge to...

Luke,
As for being in the 'common parlance', it seems to me that simpatico was a 'fad' word a few years back~people were using it quite a bit. Now, not as much, but I'd still like to have a column about it one day.

Thanks, Audiendus, your explanation makes all the difference. 8) Slava, I read the article on 'Necessary and Sufficient Condition' , and am convinced that I must be more of an auditory learner on this subject. I know I am able to comprehend the material, but I am getting nowhere by reading about it....
