I don't want to look stupid, but irregardless I want to know

Why is "irregardless" wrong? I hear it used more than "regardless". What is the history of these two word? They have to be linked.

I'm going to go home and unthaw the meatloaf.

I grew up in Maine where unthaw is in regular usage, but everyone makes fun of it. Any ideas? I think it is idiomatic since I suppose the correct spelling would be "un-thaw."

COuld you explain these? In school, I beleive I always got points for for these. There are other languages that that only indicate a question at the end, aren't there?

I think it is WICKED that fudge ice cream is so WICKED good! Do you get my point? I have lived in a couple parts of America and "wicked" has manny conotaqtions and meaning. In Maine, some thing can be "wicked good!" In Boston, Mass some one can be "wicked!" And in Calif...

Again another example where the invading Normans brought in french that adversly affected the English-Germanic language. Why do we put up with this? Can't w just drop the PH and use the F?

This is a french vs germanic-english thing, but why do we retain the KN. Germany just simplified there grammer & spelling, why can't we just drop the KN?

Could you please explain to me the correct usage of "affect" & "effect"? I really would like simple rules and perhaps a zippy saying I can remember, like “I before E, except after C.”
