Meaning: 1. Filthy, incredibly dirty, dilapidated, run-down. 2. Sordid, morally degenerate.
Recently, someone who shall remain nameless griped about the state of the White House. Yet, is it not fitting that a Definition 2 person should live in Definition 1 circumstances?

By the way, squalid and scholar aren't related. Skeleton may be, according to one source I recently saw.
