peradventure

Postby Bailey » Fri Sep 14, 2007 10:52 am

An antiquated word much like the two best words for definition
per·ad·ven·ture (pûrd-vnchr, pr-)
adv. Archaic
Perhaps; perchance.
n.
Chance or uncertainty; doubt.

[Middle English per aventure, from Old French, by chance : per, through (from Latin; see per) + aventure, chance; see adventure.]

Verily, one of my faves. 'I humbly thank you, sir.'

I lean towards perchance when I want to be high falutin', but perhaps I should alternate with peradvanture just to keep things fresh.
