Benthic
I am reading a book about the Atlantic Ocean, oddly entitled "Atlantic", which contains a host of exciting unfamiliar words, such as the above which means organisms which live near or at the bottom of a sea or lake or even the bottom thereof. I am wondering if anyone would be offended were I to use this in conjunction with a recent recommendation and refer to the benthic denizens of a waterfront tavern?

Re: Benthic
They would most definitely be offended. That is, if they understand it at all. They would probably look at you funny and, being bottom-feeders, decide to rough you up anyway, just in case.
By the way, I suggested this word once upon a time, several months ago. As no one ever even replied to it, I ended up deleting it. I figure I owe it to you to keep yours from the same fate.

Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
