Interesting how this word evolved from meaning a simple discourse to the invective it carries today. I think we can all imagine our own simple "discussions" getting out of hand.

I'd go with the fact that the "tribe" part derives from the word for rub. So, if someone rubs me the wrong way, I'll rub right back, so to speak.Interesting how this word evolved from meaning a simple discourse to the invective it carries today.
