brigand
This is a word that has good out of favor. I advocate bringing it back and applying it liberally to those in investment banking and maybe even a few Congress people. It appears to have come from Italian and shares a root with brigade. Also, has anyone noticed how many words we have for those who steal: burglars, robbers, thieves, highwaymen, brigands, outlaw, pirates?

Here's a site with 38 synonyms, not including yegg or keiper, nor the dubious smash and grabber.

You may be onto something. If Eskimos have so many words for snow because they are surrounded by it, what does that say for we English speakers. And I just remembered plagiarist. And does Yclept mean someone stole a name?

Despite the sinister sight and sound of yclept, it doesn't fall into larceny. What are you doing, Perry, studying Middle English?
