Kris* is not a typo...it's computer jargon.

Is there a typo in your signature? It's hard to imagine, but whenever I write Brazilian, I write Brazilain and have to go back and correct it. Good thing I never do that with my real name.

No, the asterisk is computer jargon (for adults that is; it could be something entirely different with the teens). In "adult" it means: to be friendly...sort of like a quick hello or goodbye with a friendly hug.

Good thing we were just talking about rude posters not any real aggression.(With reference to BD's third from last posting on this thread), I don't think we send them packing ; rather, and more effectively, we simply bend them to our ways. That is what is known as cultural imperialism....

Still got those rose-colored blinders on.
doesn't agree that any have been sent packing
[quote="tcward"]Yes, Kris*, welcome. And feel free to use the 'quote' button ([img]http://www.alphadictionary.com/bb/templ ... _quote.gif[/img]) when you feel like quoting someone's post.

Thank you Tim for pointing out that there is a quote button. Very helpful to those of us who are computer illiterates.
I promise to get the hang of this board.

Kris, I think that when you are replying, your Disable BBCode in this post option is checked...
It's the first checkbox under the text window where you type your reply.
Don't worry about getting the hang of this board. It'll come, eventually. Somehow, every board seems to have its own way of doing things, too, which doesn't help. But life goes on...

No sooner do you return to the forum, Jonah, than you try to force us sloppy, undisciplined types onto the strait and narrow and back to the topic ! O well, let's give it a try ! A word for conjunction - in English «and» -and one for disjunction - «or» - are necessary in order to reflect our thought processes, and I suspect (but do not know - it would be fascinating to find a counter-example !), exist in all languages. Logical, or inclusive disjunction (cf the link, supra) entails, in fact, the combination of conjunction and exclusive disjunction, so one could say that we already have words - «or» and its counterparts in other languages - that express this concept. The problem is that «or» also is used exclusively, and therefore, to distinguish between the two uses, we combine the terms used to express conjunction and exclusive disjunction to specifically express inclusive disjunction. A separate word for this concept is probably supererogatory, but I'm sure we should all be most interested to learn of a language which had one !...
