New development in Panini's Generative Grammar of Sanskrit

Postby bnjtokyo » Thu Dec 15, 2022 8:52 am

Rishi Rajpopat, a student pursuing a PhD at Cambridge Univerisity, has resolved a conundrum in Panini's generative grammar of Sanskrit. This revision in the order in which the rules in Panini's grammar of Sanskrit are applied allows the user to create an infinite number of grammatical expressions with almost no malformed expressions. Please remember Panini's description of Sanskrit is 2500 years old and is the oldest known generative grammar. More information at the link.

I like the Occam's Razor-type quote from the professor, “If the solution is complicated, you are probably wrong.”

The article would have been improved for me by having an example or two of just what the problem looked like. Still, it's nice knowing that even after 5,000 years, there are new things to learn.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
