Huff
Is this an example of onomatopoeia? The word origin is mysterious, yet I found a reference to a huff cap, meaning someone with an inflated ego. Also, it seems to be one of those words that begs rhyming with associated concepts: puff, snuff, bluff, fluff. As slush, flush, gush all have to do with watery. I’m certain there is a word for that, but I don’t know what it is.

Pretty much the same meaning as onomatopoeia, but I think the word you're looking for is 'imitative'.
Life is like playing chess with chessmen who each have thoughts and feelings and motives of their own.
