Re: A Nifty Zeugma

Encyclopedia Britannia feminine rhyme, also called double rhyme, in poetry, a rhyme involving two syllables (as in motion and ocean or willow and billow). The term feminine rhyme is also sometimes applied to triple rhymes, or rhymes involving three syllables (such as exciting and inviting). Robert B...

Re: Amorous

Seems to me you left out a few other contenders. How about Marian Kind and June McBride? And I'm sure there are a few more, I just couldn't remember their names.

Re: Prolegomenon

The Ngram viewer is the tool you need to compare the frequency of prolegomenon, prolegomena and prolegomenas. Here is a link to that plot. As you will see, other than a small bump back between 1800 and 1820, there are but few occurrences of "prolegomenas" https://books.google.com/ngrams/gr...

Selenophiles were pleased to learn that selenologists have recently found a hot spot in the selenography of the far side of the moon. Unfortunately, the article at the link missed its opportunity to use today's Goodword. https://www.livescience.com/space/the-moon/scientists-discover-huge-heat-emitti...

Re: Rotunda

I have no general rule, but I suspect "rotundo" is more specialized than "rotunda." This plot comparing the two on the Ngrsm viewer show "rotunda" has always been more common than "rotundo" https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=rotunda%2Crotundo&ye...

Re: Rotunda

Vanbrugh's rotundro, despite the lack of capitalization on "rotundo" in the OED quotation, is a proper noun and often capitalized elsewhere. The architect, John Vanbrugh, lived from 1664 to 1726, and he designed the Rotundo at Stowe Landscape Gardens, Buckinghamshire, in 1721. So the quota...

Re: Rotunda

Perhaps a word of explanation of the Ngram Viewer and its use. It is a wonderful tool for finding how words have been used historically, but since it is based on optical scans of thousands of texts, there are often problems with how the text is represented in that old fonts/letter forms from the pas...

pecan

I would like to suggest "pecan" as a suitable Good Word of the Day. Pecan refers to various aspects of the plant Carla illinoensis, the tree and its eatable nut/fruit and various things made from the fruit such as pecan pies. Other than its nominal and adjective uses, it has no other famil...

Re: Rotunda

The recent citations on the Ngram Viewer are surnames. The examples synonymous with "rotunda" are mostly from around 1800.

Not quite the same thing but here in Japan we often hear and see signs stating things like "Tamagawa River" where Japanese-English dictionaries usually gloss "gawa" as "river"

Re: Beset

The Ngram viewer does not allow us to expand the sample to capture more text, but I undertook a search of the internet to see what I could find with the title and author. Here's what I found. Amazon has a digital Kindle version for about 2000JPY https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Patwant-Singh/dp/0720613...

Re: The 57 alphabets built on Egyptian hieroglyphics

I would like to see that graphic setting out the alphabets based on hieroglyphics, but, not having a Facebook account and lacking the intend to have one, I cannot see your Facebook page. Would you please post the graphic someplace more generally accessible?
