For the bookies out there, see this additional oddity: Conger. Quite a different definition, eh?

Two questions:

1) whence cometh that British "u"?
2) is there any real difference between mold and mould, or is it just the British "u"?

Slava thought,
As perhaps he ought,
That the few
Would write their own Clerihew.

Moo. Milk it for all it's worth.

I do need to use the dictionary more often, even for words I know. I don't always know them as they should be known. I've always thought a salient point was a "good point" in a discussion or debate. I was wrong: 1562, "leaping," a heraldic term, from L. salientem (nom. saliens ),...

Yep, this is a fighting word. Thankfully one we don't have to fight over. It's used in several other posts, but has never been tackled on its own. Will it be someday? I guess we'll find out if we stick around long enough.

You hit the nail on he head, and did it with a poem from this thread's theme. Congrats. And remember I was criticized highly for digging up dead posts to get the site moving. An excellent word for the close of summer. Now that the students, especially those of college age, are back in the classroom, they'll have brought back many loverly viruses and odd sicknesses to share with their teachers and fellow students. Hack, hack.

Montazh also has a Russian usage. Along the lines of both the definitions, it means putting parts together according to a plan. As in a pre-fab house, or bookcase. A Tab A into Slot B kind of thing.
