Rue

Another short word with several meanings: rue (verb) = deeply regret
goat's rue = Galega officinalis

And of course, in French, la rue = street

Is there an etymological connection?

No. The French rue is from Latin and the regret sense from german. Close but different PIE roots.

Here is the 2011 treatment of the "rue the day" rue.
